Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is the process of enhancing teacher competencies through a structured, gradual, and ongoing approach tailored to individual needs. Its primary goal is to improve teacher professionalism in delivering quality education.
Through CPD, teachers are empowered to maintain, upgrade, and expand their knowledge and skills, enabling them to carry out the teaching and learning process more effectively and professionally. High-quality instruction is expected to foster better understanding, skills, and knowledge among students, ultimately contributing to their academic growth and personal development.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is an essential part of the professional growth process for teachers. It is a personal responsibility of each teacher as a member of the educational community. Therefore, CPD activities must support individual needs in improving professional teaching practices and focus on fulfilling and developing teacher competencies to support career advancement.
These activities include self-development, scientific publications, and/or innovative works, with the following objectives:
- Self-development to achieve the basic competencies required for the teaching profession.
- Self-development for deepening and updating knowledge and skills related to the teacher’s professional competencies.
- Enhancing skills and abilities to produce scientific publications and/or innovative works.
- Improving knowledge and skills to carry out additional tasks that support career development as a teacher.
- Fulfilling other activities that align with the current and future conditions and needs of teachers.
Self-development is an effort to improve personal professionalism in order to meet the competencies required by national education policies and regulations, as well as developments in science, technology, and/or the arts. These activities are carried out through functional and technical training (diklat) or through collective teacher activities.
Functional training (diklat) is an effort to enhance teacher competencies and/or strengthen insights, knowledge, attitudes, values, and skills in accordance with the profession, which are beneficial in performing teaching duties. Training can be conducted face-to-face or remotely. Remote training may be delivered via correspondence or online platforms. Types of training may include workshops, seminars, technical guidance, career coaching, courses, internships, or other forms recognized by authorized institutions. Participation in such training must be supported by official documents such as assignment letters, certificates, or statements.
Teachers may participate in functional training either by assignment from the school principal or other institutions, or based on their own initiative.
